Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) restarts Speak2Tweet service to sidestep Syria’s Net blackout

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has declared on its Europe Blog that the Speak2Tweet service has now been activated in Syria, after the country disconnecting internet access on 29 November. The service enables people to use Twitter over a voice connection by calling one of four international numbers (+90 212 339 1447 or +30 21 1 198 2716 or +39 06 62207294 or +1 650 419 4196) and leaving a voicemail. Messages are tweeted and dialing the same phone number would let them listen. Unfortunately, Syrian mobile phones and landlines are reportedly not working properly either. Speak2Tweet was first used during Egypt’s Internet blackout in February 2011.
