Ford Motor (NYSE:F) plans to sell 2,000 plug-in hybrid cars to General Electric (NYSE:GE)


Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) has decided to sell 2,000 plug-in hybrid cars to General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) for its corporate fleet. Both companies declared the purchase Tuesday. General electric (GE) will try to achieve a goal of converting half its fleet to alternative energy vehicles. With the Ford Motor (F) purchase, GE currently owns 5,000 alternative-fuel vehicles, or about 10 percent of its fleet.

Under the agreement, the automaker will endorse GE’s electric vehicle charging stations. The two companies also agreed to engage researchers from Georgia Tech University to study employees’ driving and charging habits. Then, companies that want to add electric cars to their fleets will be provided the results of those studies.
