Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE:MRK) to Appoint Roger Perlmutter Research Head, Barclays PLC (ADR) (NYSE:BCS) Upgraded the Company to Buy

The renowned pharmaceutical firm Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE:MRK) recently declared that it is appointing the Amgen retired research chief at its own research division. The division is currently being headed by Peter Kim and after his planned retirement Roger Perlmutter will take his position at Merck.

Some of the most successful products of Merck came from the supervision of Peter Kim after he took over the responsibility of research department in 2003. He effectively designed the diabetes drugs including Janumet and Januvia that gave nearly 6 billion US dollars in revenue to Merck Inc.

Mr. Roger Perlmutter will join his new job at Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE:MRK) on April 15, company said in a statement. Until the retirement of Peter Kim, both will work on the same position for a smooth transition.

Merck stock in last session held volume of 13.74 million shares as compare to its average volume of 16.01 shares. The stock after opening at $43.82 hit high price of $43.93 and then closed at $43.27 by falling -0.94%.

Looking at the revenue measures, the company generated sales of 47.27 billion in last twelve months with income of $ 6.66 billion. The Company showed a positive 14.37% in the net profit margin and its operating margin is calculated as 19.53%. Company’s annual sales growth for the past five years was -14.33%.

MRK past twelve months price to sales ratio was 2.77.

Barclays PLC (ADR) (NYSE:BCS) has upgraded the Merck stock to buy right after the news. Some analysts at the bank are of the view that Perlmutter has to work beyond just hiring the scientists and go for changing the culture at Merck research labs.

Barclays PLC (ADR) (NYSE:BCS) stock in last session held volume of 9.35 million shares as compare to its average volume of 3.13 shares. The stock after opening at $18.64 hit high price of $18.82 and then closed at $18.81 by rising up 2.23%.

Looking at the revenue measures, the company generated sales of 34.13 billion Company’s annual sales growth for the past five years was -5.37%.

BCS past twelve months price to sales ratio was 1.77 and price to cash ratio recorded as 0.47.
