NASDAQ Composite Up With A Strong Support From Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) New Acquisition – FB, AUTH, EXPE, OVRL


The NASDAQ Composite Index (INDEXNASDAQ:.IXIC) advanced more than 1%, with AuthenTec, Inc. (NASDAQ:AUTH) leading gainers after Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) decided to acquire the fingerprint sensor maker for about $350 million.

In corporate news, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) tumbled to its new low on record after the social-networking giant reported second-quarter profit met expectations while revenue slightly higher than expected but noted that costs about quadrupled from a year earlier. Overland Storage, Inc. (NASDAQ:OVRL) surged after the company said the U.S. International Trade Commission has found that certain products from Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL) and International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM) violated its storage partitioning patent.

AuthenTec, Inc. (NASDAQ:AUTH)

Shares of biometric sensor technology maker Authentec (AUTH) reported the gain of 63.51% to $8.30 during mid day after the company announced this morning said that Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) settled to buy its shares for $8 per share.

Shares of Expedia Inc., an online-travel company, surged the most in three months after reporting quarterly revenue that beat analysts’ ballpark and boosted its dividend.

Second-quarter sales increased 14 percent to $1.04 billion as the number of total room nights reserved during the service mounted 22 percent to 30 million.

During Mid Day trading, Expedia Inc (NASDAQ:EXPE) gained +20.77% to $55.21 with the total traded volume of 12.22 million shares beating the average volume of 3.48 million. It has earnings per share of 2.41.

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has launched a social plugin called Recommendations Bar. This social plugin facilitates people find articles based on what their friends be fond of and share from their website.

Shares of Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) declined -10.04% to $24.15 and hit the 52 weeks low of $22.28. Its overall traded volume during mid day trading session was 83.33 million shares. Stock’s price 52 weeks high was $45.00. FB has earnings per share of $0.19 and its price to earnings ratio ended at 129.84.
