Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is playing a major role of scanning and preserving ancient texts. This morning Google made an announcement that with the help of Israel Antiquities Authority, it will bring a large collection of biblical manuscript fragments online that include earliest copies of Book of Deuteronomy, including the Ten Commandments; part of Chapter 1 of the Book of Genesis, and much more that is 2000 years old text focusing on the teaching of prophet Jesus. Library, is hosting the entire digital collection of this.
Google Inc (GOOG) had been doing an effort since last September while it launched the Dead Sea Scrolls online, a project of The Israel Museum, Jerusalem. It was populated because of its capability of high resolution of the photographs approx 1,200 megapixels which eased the visitors to zoom it more and more to see even the minute detail. According to Google it uses its own technologies, including Google image technology, Google Storage, App Engine, Google Maps and YouTube.
The manuscripts however displayed on a new website includes both color imagery and infra red with 1215 dpi resolution. There are total of 900 manuscripts. The content pages are interlinked with each other which provide an easy access to its users to click, scroll, scale to right left, full screen option, zooming options or to tear. While the image info pages/ Deuteronomy collection provide information regarding photographer, date taken, link of the other photographs within the same collection, image type, the language used, the origin of and much more. The “Featured Scrolls” page has its own functions just as the other pages do.
The collection is not just based upon the manuscripts but infact it is better in terms of how it works and what effects it has. Keeping in mind a number of visitors, it makes an easy browsing for the viewers who have an interest of manuscript knowledge.
In other news Tech-web, based in China has reported today that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) after going through all regulatory hindrances last week is potential enough in launching cellular versions of its fourth latest generation of iPad and iPad mini in the country. Though Apple had launched Wi-Fi only versions of iPad and iPad mini on December 7 yet there was no confirmation by the company whether the launch of iPad or cellular devices in china would consist of non Wi-Fi versions or Wi-Fi ones in the same month.
According to TechWeb blog of China, these Apple Inc. (AAPL) versions designed are based on China Telecom and China Unicom networks respectively. It was also confessed there that the iPad would only be able to connect on 4G networks of china as this technology is not present everywhere around the country. Hence making Apple’s Cellular to connect on 3G.
China seems to be highly influenced by this new upcoming popular launch of Apple all over the country. Apple’s iPad snatched 71.4% of the country’s tablet-market share during the Q3, effortlessly surpassing Lenovo’s 10.5% share. Apple is reported to launch its iPhone 5 in china last week. By selling approximately 2 million units in just three days, Apple made its most successful record in China iPhone launch.
