Eight South Korean hackers were reportedly rounded up by the Philippine police, who were involved in hacking one of the nation’s largest telecommunications companies with an intention to force the company to lower the cost of worldwide mobile calls for other Koreans in the Philippines.
Police Cyber Crime Division chief Gilbert Sosa said the hackers were arrested Monday in four raids in the area of metropolitan Manila along with seven Filipino women who were working for them.
Sosa said today the group purportedly hacked several lines for overseas calls of Globe Telecom and changed their direction to mostly South Korean users living in the Philippines at a call-cost less than half the normal international call rates of 11-15 cents per minute.
